Arezzo is one of Tuscany’s hidden gems, offering a rich blend of Etruscan heritage, medieval charm, and Renaissance masterpieces.

Highlights Include:

Piazza Grande: The Heart of Arezzo
Our tour begins in the stunning Piazza Grande, one of the most beautiful squares in Tuscany. Surrounded by medieval buildings and Renaissance palaces, this square is famous for its sloping shape and elegant Loggia del Vasari, designed by the great Giorgio Vasari.
The square is also home to the Giostra del Saracino, a traditional medieval jousting tournament that takes place twice a year, bringing the town’s history to life.
You’ll have time to admire the charming antique shops and local artisans' boutiques that line the square and also see on of the most curious clocks which dates back to the 16th century.
The Basilica of San Francesco: Piero della Francesca’s Masterpiece
Next, we visit the Basilica of San Francesco, home to one of the greatest treasures of Renaissance art: "The Legend of the True Cross" by Piero della Francesca. This stunning fresco cycle, painted between 1452 and 1466, is considered one of the most important masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance. We’ll explore its intricate symbolism and learn about Piero della Francesca’s revolutionary use of perspective and color.
The Cathedral of San Donato
A short walk uphill takes us to the Arezzo Cathedral, dedicated to San Donato.
Inside, you’ll admire stunning stained glass windows, the fresco of Mary Magdalene by Piero della Francesca, and the tomb of Pope Gregory X.
The Cathedral’s elevated position offers a panoramic view over the city, making it a perfect spot for photos.
The Etruscan Museum: Discovering Arezzo’s Ancient Roots
Arezzo has a strong Etruscan heritage, and one of the best places to explore this ancient civilization is at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale "Gaio Cilnio Mecenate". Located in a former Benedictine monastery, this museum houses an impressive collection of Etruscan artifacts, including pottery, jewelry, and funerary objects. One of its highlights is the "Chimera of Arezzo," a magnificent Etruscan bronze sculpture discovered in the city in 1553 (now in Florence, but its story is told here).
The museum also showcases Roman artifacts, including mosaics and inscriptions from the time when Arezzo was a flourishing Roman city.
Corso Italia: Shopping and Local Flavors
Finally, we stroll down Corso Italia, the city’s main street, filled with elegant boutiques, artisan workshops, and traditional cafés.
You’ll have time to explore Arezzo’s vibrant shopping scene, from jewelry to leather goods and antiques.
We can end our tour with a stop at a local café to taste a traditional Tuscan dessert, such as Cantucci with Vin Santo.
